The Civil War of Skyrim allows the Dragonborn to make an interesting choice: Which side do they align themselves with during the war However, this doesn't make up for the repetitive quests and annoying fort battles that fans have to endure to complete this group of quests. On my main save, since I completed the Stormcloak civil war missions and had the other quest active before the civil war missions were completed, I could no longer finish it but it remained active. I had another quest glitch because of the civil war missions too. So many things are glitchy in this game, but it's still loads of fun. and yes I did it before the main quest so I'm sure you probably have to do it before the main quest. i didn't find any fix unfortunately but just decided to start another game and do the Imperial missions instead and it worked. Hopefully they will patch all these quest-breaking glitches soon. I found a post on another website that says you have to do the civil war questline before finishing the main questline, or no achievements
